EDTC 606 - TECHNOLOGY IN K-12 CURRICULUM
Technology in the Curriculum will bring together resources from leading high-tech companies to improve technology integration in the classroom for all disciplines. This course addresses the challenges teachers face in effectively applying computer technology to enhance student learning. Coursework will focus on the integration of computers and computer resources into school curricula. The class will incorporate the use of the Internet, Smart Board technology, web page design, and multi-media software. The assessments will be aligned with the State Core Curriculum Content Standards, as well as ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETSS), a standard for educational uses of technology that facilitates school improvement in the United States. Education, health, social service and arts agencies depend on a certain amount of external support in order to carry out missions and programs. Grant development includes the creation of: mission statements, financials, tax-free status, governance structures and organization charts. As well as a description of the project for which funding is needed. Grant writing and the assembly of grant submissions is a complex process. A practical approach to grant development is offered through this course. Research using the internet and printed sources, proposal writing, budget development, identifying goals, evaluation and reporting are covered in depth. Participants will prepare model proposals to real funding sources.

Students will learn how to use original and imported images in Power Point presentations, Digital Videos and Web Sites for K-12 classroom use. You will learn how to shoot Digital Stills and Digital Video using Sony and Canon still cameras and video cameras. You are encouraged to bring in any still camera or video camera and you will be taught how to use them too. Scanning techniques need to import regular photos will also be covered. Students will create a lesson they can put on a zip disc, CD or the internet.

EDTC 615 - DEVELOPING MULTIDISCIPLINARY LEARNING
This course will provide an opportunity to develop multidisciplinary units that take advantage of new technologies and the active learning environment of the Meadowlands Environmental Center. The course will provide hands-on experience with computers, digital cameras and software programs in designing multimedia lessons. Students will incorporate a variety of content areas into their coursework through collaboration with classmates and center staff. Each session will include art, language arts, science and social studies content workshops along with discussion and evaluation of software found in most schools. Students will develop project-based lessons and classroom presentations as part of the coursework. Participants do not need to be computer experts to succeed in this class. Although the course material can be adapted to any grade level, this course will focus on materials for K-6 grades.

EDTC 616 - AUDIO VISUAL MEDIA PRODUCTION FOR EDUCATORS
An in-depth experience in video and audio editing, creating a CD, and soundtracks for multimedia classroom audio visual presentations. This course will make the transition from analog video and audio tape production to understanding and using the complete multimedia workstation. Skills in digital nonlinear video and audio editing, composing music on the computer and selecting and editing video and audio for enhanced classroom and interactive distance teaching presentations will be learned. Students will leave the class with their own CD of a project they can use in their schools.

This course will allow students to apply their experiences gathered from coursework in the Master of Educational Technology Program in a workshop atmosphere. The student will work on projects combining all aspects of multimedia production, including video, digital image creation, graphics, and presentation techniques using multimedia sources. Fieldwork will include location visits to nearby video production facilities with demonstrations from professionals in the field. This experience will expose the student to a total emersion in the multimedia field. EDTC 639 - ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY IN THE CURRICULUM
Advanced Technology in the K-12 Curriculum continues to enhance resources from leading high-tech companies to improve technology integration in the classroom. This professional development addresses the challenges teachers face in effectively applying computer technology to enhance student learning including troubleshooting techniques. The trainings incorporate the use of the Internet, Smart Board technology, web page design, and multi-media software. Software includes Microsoft Encarta and Inspiration. The trainings also develop an understanding of web-based video clips and their incorporation into a multimedia presentation. Teachers will leave the course with a solidly documented Unit Portfolio that engages students in the use of technology. The assessments will be aligned with the State Core Curriculum Content Standards, as well as, ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETSS) a standard for educational uses of technology that facilitates school improvement in the United States. Each assessment will meet at least two NETSS standards. This course will be taught in ten 4-hour modules over the two weeks with an additional 20 hours of on-line instruction, support and mentoring. Class sessions combine hands-on, exploratory, lecture, tutorial, and individual practice experiences. Emphasis will be placed on collaboration self- and peer-evaluation, creativity and presentation techniques. This course will be on-site and on-line.

The use of science fiction as a teaching tool to spark creativity, inspire delight in reading, foster curiosity and interest in science, and to explore technologies (curent, projected, and improbable). The class will draw on a mix of texts, films, TV clips, and electronic resources. Two-thirds of the class will involve common texts, materials, and group construction and participation in an electronic MOO habitat. One-third of the class will be guided individual student reading and reviewing of science fiction materials appropriate to the teaching level of the students. Students will use manipulatives, calculators, and computer software including Geometer's Sketchpad, Graphmatica, Excel, PowerPoint, and Inspiration to promote the understanding of the mathematical concepts. This course will provide the learner with an overview and hands-on experiences in the areas of hardware, software, maintenance, and problem-solving issues involved in computer information technology and network administration in educational settings. The course emphasizes a hands-on approach, supported by appropriate lecture and discussion, that provides the student with the fundamentals and essentials of state-of-the-art network and hardware technology as it is applied to the development and implementation of networks in K-12 schools. The course serves as a general introduction to hardware, computer maintenance, and networking including local and wide area network technology. EDTC 682 - THE WONDER OF DISCOVERY: SCIENCE, MATH AND THE ARTS
This course is proposed to integrate Science and Mathematics instruction with the Arts and Humanities. The artist and the scientist can be seen as living parallel lives, though they express themselves through different media. "The artist asks questions about the ways in which the world can be interpreted and re-created." (Tolley, 1993). Both are investigators on a mission to explore or answer questions. As participants in this inquiry-based course, we will explore the connections between the arts and sciences through hands-on activities, a variety of readings and field trips. Attention will be given to the theoretical frameworks, which support our practices. The use of technology as a connecting tool between these areas of inquiry will be addressed. The course will capitalize on the multicultural and multilingual contexts of our classrooms. We will look at how learning with and through the arts expands appeal of science to a greater variety of diverse learners. Participants will work in groups to create an integrated unit, which they will be able to implement in their own classrooms.

EDTC 684 - SCIENCE AND HUMAN VALUES
Science is rarely presented as a part of history, or in an historical context. It is often portrayed as something rigid and inflexible. We think of science as a product of the minds of very special people, the scientists, who think about the world in ways divorced from the social and historical context of the time in which they live and work. Science is often blamed for their controversial discoveries (and their bi-products) which are misused by society, such as nuclear energy, smart bombs, chemical wastes, and virulent microorganisms. Conversely they are praised by those discoveries such as bionic hearts, life-saving medicines, monoclonal antibodies, and gigabyte cyber systems. During this semester we will critically evaluate such issues through the societal context in which science operates. EDTC 710 - FIELD EXPERIENCE FOR TECHNOLOGY INFUSION
This is the final course in the sequence of five core courses for the Master of Science in Educational Technology. It is taken in conjunction with EDTC 750: Practicum in Learning Theory. In this course we will examine and put into practice the utilization of technology to transform traditional teaching and learning. For example, technology can be employed to: -determine and/or establish connectivity among topics in a content area -access and integrate data sources -acquire management skills in coordinating student investigations -apply assessment techniques that utilize technology The culminating student product will be a unique and valuable self—contained web-based curricular project.

EDTC 750 - PRACTICUM IN LEARNING THEORY
A capstone to the entire sequence of course experiences requiring: the conceptualization, operational planning, and field execution of a self-contained curricular project. Completion of a comprehensive report analyzing project outcomes, including an examination of assumptions under girding the project and identification of variables affecting outcomes; a juried appraisal/critique of the end product(s).
