MSWK 662 - PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY |
This one credit intensive course addresses major psychoactive drugs used in the treatment of psychological and behavioral disorders in both a behavioral and primary care setting. Theoretical and practical approaches to treatment of depression, anxiety, insomnia, attention deficit, psychosis and trauma-related stress disorders are examined with the goal of advancing students’ knowledge of best practices that compliment current evidence-based interventions. will review
diagnostic categories and symptoms of the major mental illnesses. Appropriate medications for particular conditions will be described along with potential side effects. Clinical issues around social work with clients on medication, such as taking or not taking meds, will be discussed. Issues that arise in collaborative work with interdisciplinary teams will be described.
