NURS 365 - STUDY TRIP TO SIERRA LEONE |
The objective of this study trip to Sierra Leone West Africa is to expose students to differences in healthcare environments and the cultural implications for healthcare. This trip offers a comprehensive overview of community healthcare in Sierra Leone as well as introduction to African civilization, society, and culture. By the end of the study trip, students will appreciate the impact that politics play on the delivery of healthcare in sub Sahara Africa. Students will understand how Sierra Leone's recent wars and economic and political history has shaped its society and current healthcare environment. Students will also experience the impact that the work of Ramapo nursing faculty has on transforming the curriculum. On return to RCNJ after these experiential learning opportunities students will make presentations to students and faculty groups about their lived experiences. This program is in keeping with Ramapo's mission of international education, intercultural understanding, and experiential learning opportunities.
