| LLAS 330 - NEW YORK AS A LATINO CITYSCAPE |

This is a 300-level interdisciplinary course designed to explore the exploding Latino demographic in the U.S. with a focus on New York, New Jersey communities. The 2010 Census already shows that Hispanics are the second largest group in America with one in 6 Americans identifying as Latino. By the year 2050, nearly one in three U.S. residents will be Hispanic. This course will examine the ways in which generations of Latinos have become integral to the fabric of New York City's urban landscape since the 19th century, extending their influence from the city to neighboring suburbs, such as New Jersey, and even back to the Caribbean and Latin America. The course will study the diversity within Latino identity, as well as Hispanic influence in media, press, popular culture, literature, politics and the arts. Students will also examine how young Latino millennials will impact the American landscape. This course will be taught in English. Lab Fee.
