| INFO 231 - SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND DESIGN |

This course provides instruction in the systems-development life cycle in order to gain an understanding of how to solve today's business problems. Students will be exposed to several system development methodologies, including the waterfall, object oriented, prototyping, and agile approaches. Although there is no programming in this course, there will be numerous hands-on individual and group exercises and a student project. Students will employ graphical and other modeling tools including UML. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to understand the basics of system development methodologies, determine system requirements, and transition from requirements to analysis and from analysis to design. Introductory instruction will also be given in systems development project planning and management. Lab Fee.

An introduction to web site development and basic maintenance. Students will get hands-on experience in using HTML and CSS with modern editing tools including Microsoft Expression Web. Students will learn to enhance their web pages with multimedia components such as images, audio, and video. Additional topics will include web site hosting, web analytics, blogs, wikis, discussions, and chats. The course will also explore several methods of generating revenue with your web site, marketing it, using some dynamic elements of the site design and external web services. An interactive, broad-based course for students interested in technology and ethics. Students will participate in mock trials, role plays, and frequent group assignments. One paper, very specific to one or more issues in the course, will be required. Each student will also take part in a class presentation. Some topics covered are: computer waste and mistake, health and environmental concerns related to computing, gender-based issues, computer fraud, cookies and click-stream tracing, email privacy, misuse of digital data, intellectual property issues, computer crime, hate sites, and management of technical professionals. Students must have knowledge of MS Office and facility with the Internet.
