EDLD 615 - INSTITUTIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY: ASSESSMENT, EVALUATION AND MEASUREMENT TO PROMOTE STUDENT SUCCESS |
In the complex and rapidly changing landscape of our contemporary higher education institutions, college and university administrators must be fluent in the language of assessment and accountability. Once often thought as the responsibility of those only in the classroom, assessment is now at the core of what all areas within higher education must do to demonstrate value-added, return on investment, effectiveness, support of the mission and learning outside the classroom. This course will provide aspiring higher education leaders the opportunity to understand the role of assessment in higher education, the opportunity to examine models, processes and strategies of educational evaluation and supervision, and the essential elements that best serve to promote individual student academic success. Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to foster an organizational culture and instructional program that are most likely to promote professional growth and good governance and, in turn, maximize student learning. Specific topics of study include formative and summative assessment and evaluation of performance; effective coaching; mentoring; teacher and faculty leadership; standards of good governance; exemplary professional development models; and differentiated evaluation. Evaluation of performance will include completion of course-specific authentic performance task, written prompts, peer observation and evaluative reports, and engagement in collegial discourse.
