ENSC 225 - GIS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
This course applies current trends, software industry standards and applications using Geographic Information Systems (GlS) software. GIS are systems that help us organize, manage, analyze, and present the spatial dimension ofinformation on maps, and across many disciplines. lt is a tool for scientists and for decision making. Components and areas ofinterest that environmental scientists study have geographic characteristics and extent. What, when, how and where we are conducting our studies are all critical in GIS. The purpose ofthis course is to teach students the foundations ofGlS and how it is applied in environmental science, and other related disciplines. We will also discuss the policy and organizational issues involved in GIS, and the institutional framework that supports them, including ethical and legal issues, and standards governing GIS data in New lersey.
