BIOL390L: YEAST GENETICS/GENOMICS LAB: The budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, is one of the most heavily utilized research model organisms in the world, and has been pivotal in our current understanding of cellular and molecular biology and genetics. In addition, these microorganisms play a vital role in today’s society as bakers and brewers yeast. In the Yeast Genetics and Genomics course, we will learn relevant background material, fundamental concepts, and current trends in the field of yeast genetics and genomics research, while conducting a comprehensive set of laboratory experiments and fieldwork designed to illustrate the limitless possibilities of these tiny organisms.
