TOPICS: PANDEMICS AND THE CULTURAL IMAGINATION: This course examines how pandemics past and present, real and imagined, have been treated in American culture. The Covid-19 pandemic is not the first widespread disease outbreak the country has faced, and we will learn about how people in the past tried to make sense of what they were experiencing. We will also look at how a range of storytelling forms--including fiction, film, television shows, and video games--have depicted imaginary pandemics. What do these stories have to offer as we continue navigating such uncertain times?
