MUSI 237 - HISTORY OF JAZZ
A study of the origins and musical components ofjazz and the contributions of many of its major artists. Emphasis is placed on the development of discriminating listening habits, as well as the investigation of the styles and structural forms of the jazz idiom from blues to avant-garde. This course will analyze the sociocultural and technological forces that have shaped the growth of jazz.
