MSWK 655 - NEUROBIOLOGY AND SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE
The Neurobiology and Social Work Practice course provides knowledge ofthe foundations of clinical social work practice from a neurobiological framework. Basic brain anatomy and function as it relates to emotional regulation, attachment, interpersonal neurobiology, neuroplasticity and memory will be the focus of this course. Students will learn to differentially approach assessment and intervention from a neurobiological lens. Professional practice skills in monitoring one’s own work and evaluating the effectiveness of one’s interventions will be covered. This course will also develop students’ knowledge of the various theoretical approaches and their implications for clinical intervention relevant to clinical practice with individuals and families with an emphasis on intergenerational emotional patterns, how memory is stored and the effects of trauma on the brain.
