MGMT 390 - TOPICS:
The descriptions and topics of this course change from semester-to-semester, as well as from instructor-to-instructor. Prerequisite: varies with the topic offered. MGMT390: MANAGEMENT PRACTICUM: Designed to help students “test-drive” and hone the skills they’ve learned in the management curriculum in service to their larger career development and goals, this elective course formalizes the co-op and internship academic program in which students are placed in work positions relevant to their management major and career goals. The course integrates academic work on-campus with supervised off-campus work experience in both the public and private sectors. The instructor will provide online infrastructure for the course, including provision and support for guided peer-peer discussion outside of the classroom on a weekly basis. The class as a whole will meet a minimum of 4 times (in a 3:20 pre-established time slot); these estimated meetings would occur at the start of the semester, at the start of week 4, at the start of week 7, and at the end of the semester. Written work will be assigned, returned, and/or graded at these sessions, which will also include guided reflective discussion about work being performed by each student in his/her placement and relevant challenges/opportunities experienced. Students will be supported in developing strategies to overcome the challenges and access the opportunities, and in finding answers to questions that are arising during the placement.
