INFO 316 - INTRO TO DIGITAL FORENSICS
This course provides an overall examination of the role of digital forensic processes in the incident response and investigatory process. Students will learn different aspects of computer and cyber crime and ways in which to uncover, protect, exploit, and document digital evidence. Students will be exposed to different types of tools (both software and hardware), techniques and procedure, and be able to use them to perform rudimentary forensic investigations. This course studies techniques and tools in computing investigation, digital evidence collection, recovery, and analysis. Topics include: Legal issues relating to digital evidence, recovering deleted files and discovering hidden information, reconstructing user activity from e-mail, temporary Internet files and cached data, cell phone and mobile device forensics, and computer forensics reporting. This course introduces the student to forensic practices in incident response, evidence identification, gathering, preservation, and analysis, and applies that introduction through various lab projects.
