CHEM 430 - EXPERIMENTAL BIOCHEMISTRY
This lab course is complementary to the Biochemistry lecture course (CHEM 426-01) which is taken after the lecture course. The experiments were chosen to reinforce ideas and concepts that are introduced in the lecture. This course will introduce students to laboratory techniques such as computing techniques in biochemical research, separation and identification of amino acids, gel electrophoresis analysis of protein and DNA, protein purification including column chromatography, protein quantitation and kinetic assays, purification of lipids, and general molecular cloning techniques. A pre-laboratory lecture will precede each new laboratory experiment and post-laboratory discussion will be provided after each experiment. To provide the experience in scientific communication skill, there will be In-Class presentations by students and currently published empirical papers in the area of biochemical research will be reviewed and presented by the students.
