MUSI 270 - BRAZILIAN LATIN PERCUSSION |
The Brazilian Latin Percussion Ensemble is open to all Ramapo students, with no experience necessary to join. During weekly class meetings (rehearsals), students learn a range of Brazilian and Cuban percussion instruments, rhythms, styles, and songs. Students develop their musical skills in a group environment, improving their skills to play individually and collectively at the same time. The cultural contexts of the music traditions are also introduced. The Ensemble primarily plays Brazilian music, especially Carnival parading styles and Afro-Brazilian traditions. The Ensemble also plays Cuban percussion instruments and polyrhythmic grooves. Students must also participate in at least one performance during the semester, of which there are usually two or three options. Most performances occur outside of the class meeting time.
The final concert is usually during the last week of classes.
