HIST 294 - WAR AND PEACEMAKING
(Formerly HIST394: "War, Peace & Conflict Resolution") -- This course examines the causes of war, including state and non-state actors. It examines the moral and ethical questions surrounding the decisions to engage in wars, and once engaged, the question of "rules" of conflict. lt also examines the ways in which wars are brought to a conclusion, such as various forms of diplomatic action and pressure, political and social change, and purely military solutions. It examines the issue of war crimes and war guilt, and the moral framework around cases ofreparation and post-war trials, Finally, it explores the theoretical basis of "peace" as something other than simply an absence of war.
