CHEM 211 - ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I LECTURE
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to basic modem organic chemistry and will be of interest to students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and related sciences. This course introduces students to the language and theoretical foundations of organic chemistry. This course will introduce students to the principles of organic structure (alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, carbonyl compounds and stereochemistry, and will learn the basic principles of infrared (IR), spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). Emphasis will be placed on the synthesis of organic molecules; this will include the conversion of one class of organic compound to others. In addition, the properties of these organic compounds will be discussed. Organic chemistry is a multifaceted science that is central to other related sciences including biochemistry and medicinal chemistry.
