SPAN 101 - FOUNDATIONS I - SPANISH |
Foundations of Spanish I, the first half of a one year sequence, is designed for students with no prior knowledge ofthe language. Students will develop the language skills needed to communicate at a basic level with native speakers and learn the requisite cultural sensitivity to interact and emphasize with
Spanish-speaking communities around the world. The development oflistening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish through the exploration of familiar topics such as family and friends, professions, daily activities, college life, food and restaurants, sports and hobbies, and shopping will be an important part of the course. The emphasis throughout the semester will be on the active use of the target language. Just as significantly, through readings, video clips, class discussions, and online activities students will become aware of cross-cultural similarities and differences, thus contributing to global competence. The course will also help them reflect on their own language.
