PSYC 431 - ADV TOPICS PSYC:CHILD ABUSE
A seminar designed to examine the topic of child abuse from a psychological perspective. Students will integrate and apply their skills and knowledge of psychology to this complex phenomenon. Various theoretical frameworks for understanding and responding to the problem of child abuse will be considered. Areas of study will include biological, psychological, social and cultural factors that influence the development and experience of various forms of child abuse, risk and protective factors, the impact of child abuse on the development and psychological well-being of victims, families and the larger community, and the various psychological approaches for preventing and responding to child abuse. Students will apply and further develop their knowledge and skills through multiple course requirements. This course includes a service learning component and is a writing intensive course. Fulfills Category 8 requirement.
