The loss of biodiversity is one of the preeminent environmental issues of the 21st century. This course provides an in-depth survey of a broad range of ecological concepts related to the preservation and conservation of biodiversity. The connection between theory and applications at all ecological scales (individual organisms, populations, species, communities, ecosystems, biomes) is emphasized. Case studies that span a broad array of taxa (primarily plants and animals), ecosystems (terrestrial, aquatic, natural, anthropogenic) and geographic regions are presented throughout the course.
