ARTS 209 - 3-D ANIMATION
3D Animation is a course in developing 3D objects, environments, and animations. This class will introduce fundamental 3D theories and principles of computer modeling and animation. Students will be given an overview of modeling techniques including (but not limited to) texturing, lighting, and rendering 3D models and scenes. 3D modeling and animation is often associated with animated feature films, but is also used heavily in fine art by artists such as Paul Chan and John Klima. 3D modeling has many applications in staging, installation, and the pre-fabrication of sculpture on a variety of scales including rapid prototyping, architecture, and mold-making. Class will include screenings, demos, readings, discussions and critiques of student work. Technical demos will be given for mastering the basics of Cinema 4D software, and a rigged model will be provided. Students will practice animating objects and then characters. Readings and discussions will focus on art-making, and philosophies of 2D and 3D visualization. Students will learn how to use 3D software, but more imporantly, students will learn about the concepts of 3D modeling and animation and about creating time-based art. Lab Fee: $50.
