This course will examine essential content knowledge for working with clients who abuse substances with the expectationthat students will synthesize and integrate thatknowledge with previous social work practice knowledge to effectively work with this specialized population. Students will learntheories relevantto substance abuse counseling and how to applythem to theirpractice. This is the first oftwo
substance abuse electives thatsatisfy the academic requirements for students who are interested in pursuinga licensure in clinical alcohol and drugcounseling (LCADC). Each week students will be required to complete various assignments to account for the .5 hours of class time that is not onsite.
