SWRK 251 - SUBSTANCE ABUSE |
(Formerly PSYC 251) This is the first course in the Substance Abuse minor sequence. This course will provide an overview of substance abuse from a Biopsychosocial perspective. A history of substance abuse trends and policy in the United States will be reviewed. The difference between substance use, abuse, and dependence will be discussed. The course will also introduce students to the various classes of substances commonly abused. Students will gain an understanding of the experience of people who are addicted to substances as well as the role of communities. Critical thinking will be used to evaluatge existing knowledge of substance abuse.
