This course is an exploration of representative examples of theater from the beginnings of Realism to the end of the 20th century. Through this course, students will study how theater reflects the intellectual, social, political and religious life of cultures defined by place and time.
This is a required course of Theater majors and minors and fulfills General Education Topics: Arts and Humanities requirements as it introduces students to the methods of inquiry of theater and performance through the critical examination of play texts and performances and their social, cultural, and historical contexts.
