POLI 340 - AMERICAN PRESIDENCY
This course is a study of the evolution powers, and limitations of the presidency. Emphasis will be placed on presidential power, the selection process, presidential interaction with other institutions and the public, and evaluating presidents. The course will include an analysis of the president's roles as Commander-in-Chief, foreign policymaker, "chief legislator," chief executive, and party leader. The course reflects the interdisciplinary nature of presidential studies including schlarship from political science, psychology, law, political communication, and history. The readings blend some classics with current research and are authored by the leading scholars in the field. Throughout the course, we will apply course material to the current president and political events.
