LANG 330 - FOREIGN LANGUAGE PEDAGOGY
This course will introduce students to a proficiently-oriented approach to the teaching of world languages. We will cover such areas as second-language acquisition theories and methods, the historical development of language teaching methodology, proficiency guidelines and their implications for the classroom, national and state standards and their implementation in the classroom, strategies for the teaching of the four skill areas--reading and aural comprehension, speaking, and writing--and culture, and assessment tools. The course will also aim to familiarize students with professional organizations, congresses, and journals in the field of second language teaching, introduce students to the use of technology in the classroom, and foster a self-reflective and critical attitude toward teaching. This course fulfills a requirement toward the state license to teach foreign languages.
