This course looks at the roles played by new and emerging technologies in the marketing, promotion and distribution of recorded music and musical events. Students will learn which technologies are at the forefront, how they are being utilized and how they are revolutionizing the recording industry at every level. We will analyze the relationships between artists, record companies, and distribution networks paying special attention to intellectual property and copyright issues and the perceived threat of digital distribution to major recording companies and their dominance in the industry.
