The focus of this course is the professional nurse's leadership and management role within health care systems. The multi-faceted aspects of the role of the nurse as a leader and manager are explored in depth, with emphasis on the role of the nurse as leader and manager of patient care. The clinical practicum will focus on the clinical decision making, management, delegation and human resource skills needed by the nurse to manage the health care of a group of patients. 4 credits (2 didactic, 2 laboratory) Pre-reqs: Patterns of Adult Health, Gerontology, Health Care Policy and Finance. Pre/Coreq: Research Applications in Nursing Practice. Lab Fee.
