EDTC 641 - INFECTION
This course is an exploration of how diseases spread in human populations. Basic principles of epidemiology will be introduced. We will explore how bacteria, viruses, eukaryotic parasites and prions may cause disease. We will examine our naturally occurring defenses and how our body can fight off infections. We will also explore how these concepts can be most effectively taught in the K-12 classroom by researching resources available for these diverse student populations. We will explore computer models of infection that reinforce epidemiological principles and Web quests and computer based interactive simulations of laboratory activities. We will also meet on-site a number of times to explore laboratory and classroom activities that can be applied in an educational setting.
