LITR 344 - ENGLISH RENAISSANCE STUDIES |
(Formerly LITR 361) This course will examine the rise of English letters during the period 1510-1610. Though emphasis will be given to the literary assumptions and aspirations of the age, and its lyric, epic and dramatic forms, attention will also be given to narratives which illuminate the period's interest in education and translation, the design and purpose of history, the exploration of the world, and the role of men and women in the social order. The course is open to students of literature and other humanities disciplines and will include critical discussions of texts, student presentations and the development of research topics for a final paper.
