ENST 325 - CULTURE AND ECOLOGY IN THE AEGEAN |
(Study Abroad course) The course will begin at the University of the Aegean in Lesvos where faculty from the schools of Anthropology and Environmental Studies will present their perspectives on "Greek Culture and Ecology in World Perspective." The focus of the course follows from the University of the Aegean's mission to regenerate the ecology and promote the sustainability of the Aegean communities. We will discuss topics such as declining bio-diversity, the preservation of wildlife, the management of waste and the global economic forces, including tourism, as well as problems imposed on the Aegean by the European community. We will especially explore the connections between local culture and ecology in Lesvos, as well as in the islands of Samos and Ikaria. We will end with an exploration of Athens sites relevant to our focus.
